Twenty years on Drupal, twelve of them as an architect.
I am a Drupal architect, working from Varna in Bulgaria. I have been on drupal.org since 2006 and carried the Drupal Architect title for twelve years. Before that, and alongside it, I ran my own practice for eighteen years, so the business end of an engagement is not new to me either.
I hold a Master’s in Software Engineering and Management, and an Acquia Certified Drupal Developer certification.
Most of the work has been on Drupal platforms already in production and now having to change: migrations, search, integrations, performance. The rest is the greenfield builds that eventually become them. I still write the code, so the architecture and the deployment stay one person’s problem rather than a handover.
I studied AI for my master’s and have followed it since. When working with clients, I aim to avoid the hype and concentrate on what it can actually do for them.
I work from first principles: start at the business goal, and let it decide what the solution has to be and what it is worth spending on it.
